About

A good bike does not expire.

GOOD DETOUR is an independent workshop and store built on a simple observation: millions of well-made bicycles from the 1990s are sitting in garages and basements, written off as obsolete — when they are actually one careful rebuild away from being the most useful bike in someone's life.

What we believe

You may already own the bike you need. A steel-framed mountain bike from 1994 can commute, carry groceries, explore gravel roads and stay with you for decades. It does not need to be lighter, newer or faster. It needs to fit your life.

We are not anti-new — we are anti-throwaway. Use marks are not damage; they are evidence of a relationship. We would rather help you measure twice than sell you the wrong thing once.

What we do

We find classic mountain bikes worth keeping — mostly 1990s Specialized Hardrock, Rockhopper and Stumpjumper — and rebuild them into everyday bikes: upright, comfortable, useful. Then we document the whole story, because a build is not a product photo; it is a bike going back to work.

Through our configurator, you can do the same with the bike you already own: confirm two fit-critical measurements and choose only the compatible parts that matter — curated components from NITTO, SimWorks, MKS, DIA-COMPE, OURY, VLCmade, ROLLCii and BLUE LUG, each with honest fit notes.

Why the name

A good detour is the longer way home on purpose — past the river, through the neighbourhood, by the bakery. It is what happens when a bike is not exercise equipment but part of how you live. Life with a bike.

Where

We are based in Saskatchewan, Canada, and we ship across Canada. Real prairies, real winters, real grocery runs — if a build works here, it works anywhere.
