You Don’t Need a New Bike

You do not need a new bike
There are lighter, faster bikes than the one in your garage. They have more gears, larger axles, tidier cables and standards that did not exist when yours was built.
That does not mean you need one.
A good old mountain bike already has most of what makes a bicycle useful: a strong frame, room for real tires and simple parts that do not ask for much. What is usually missing is not another bicycle. It is a better riding position, reliable brakes or somewhere to carry dinner.
Sometimes it needs a more comfortable cockpit. Sometimes it needs fresh brake pads, a rack or a few worn parts. Sometimes it needs air in the tires and somewhere to go.
Where we fit in
Good Detour exists for people who may already own the bike they need. We rebuild 1990s mountain bikes for commutes, grocery runs, river paths and the long way home. We also stock the handlebars, racks, brakes and contact points that help them do those jobs.
If there is an old bike in your garage, start with the Build Library and see what it could become. If the rebuild is already underway but the measurements are getting murky, send us photos and the numbers you have. Fit Help is free.
Keep the bike. Change what matters. Ride it longer.
